About the Mission

Erected in its current structure in 1952 by merging the historic Diocese of São Tomé of Meliapore (established 1606) and Archdiocese of Madras (1886), the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Madras and Mylapore is an ecclesiastical province based in Chennai. Centered at the historic St. Thomas Cathedral Basilica in Santhome, it manages over 128 parishes and numerous educational, healthcare, and charitable institutions across Tamil Nadu.
